The Anesthesiology Critical Care Fellowship is open to individuals who have successfully completed a four-year residency in anesthesiology and are board eligible or certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) or have completed an accredited program in Canada. Each year, the Department of Anesthesiology offers one categorical (5-year program) and one advanced spot (4-year program) in an innovative program combining a residency in Anesthesiology and a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine. The Critical Care Medicine Fellowship consists of one year (clinical) or two years (combined clinical and research) of postgraduate training after satisfactory completion of a residency program in anesthesiology. Fellows rotate through a broad mix of ICUs within the UW system in a schedule that it is integrated with the Pulmonary Critical Care Fellowship. ACGME Accredited ACCM Fellowship Programs. Fellows have 1-2 months of elective time. The Critical Care Division of the Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine Department includes 15 faculty who are trained in Critical Care Medicine, and who contribute to the education of critical care fellows. It’s a 150-question multiple choice exam, and fellows have three hours to complete the exam. The combined pediatrics-anesthesiology residency seeks applicants with outstanding clinical abilities who show potential to be leaders in their field (e.g., pediatric anesthesiology, PICU, pediatric pain management, or other fields). During the program fellows rotate through assignments including pediatric cardiac anesthesia, pain management, pediatric and intensive care, and general pediatric anesthesia. The Adult Combined Cardiothoracic Critical Care (CTCC) Fellowship creates a single streamlined and integrated 24-month program from the required elements of two separate 1-year fellowship programs. Two-year fellowship in Critical Care Medicine: in order to apply for this, the trainee must have completed pediatric residency training and an approved fellowship in pediatric cardiology, pediatric pulmonary medicine, neonatology, or have completed an anesthesiology residency.
